Celebrate Play: Thanks for your support!
8th Aug 2017
PlayWorks held a free Family Play event on 2nd August 2017. The event, Celebrate Play, attracted over 1600 people to the Nottingham Arboretum who participated in a range of crafting and sporting activities. The day not only marked the 30th anniversary of UK PlayDay, but also celebrated the 30th Anniversary of PlayWorks.
As well as spending time at PlayWorks’ Family Game Zone and Obstacle Course, Children and Young People tried a range of Sports Activities provided by Nottingham City Council Play and Youth Teams, got up close with animals from Stonebridge City Farm, took a wild walk with the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, and entered a world of Word, Play and Poetry with Literacy Volunteers.
All the crafting activities were designed to be easily replicable at home for free or at low cost, this included making headdresses, juggling balls and musical instruments with PlayWorks, constructing tree spirits with the Park Rangers, building stick tree installations and Tee Pees with Bulwell Community Toy Library, and getting messy in the Mud Kitchen with Happy Mondays Playgroup. Frameworks/SSBC, NCHA, Nottingham Contempory, and Family Care also provided exciting and engaging craft activities. Under-fives could also enjoy their own activities provided by Bulwell Community Toy Library and Nottingham City Council.
As well as our dedicated and talented team of Playworkers and volunteers helping out on the day, we were also joined by staff from the Experian, John Lewis, and Nottingham Building Society.
Boots, Nottingham Girls High School, and others also provided invaluable support for the event.
We would like to thank the many people who helped to make the day a giant success!
