Welcome to ScrapBand
An exciting project for children aged between 6 and 11 to express themselves and have fun, learn about instruments and music from around the world, and earn a recognised arts certificate. There is even a chance to perform as a group.
Children taking part use eco-friendly materials from our very own ScrapStore to make homemade instruments.
Not only do we explore the Arts, we also learn about recycling and work towards a recognised Arts Awards certificate whilst having lots of fun!
Meet the Team
Beth Morley — Project Co-ordinator
I started my working life in the world of recycling and waste. Developing and delivering community engagement, education and behavioural change projects at Nottingham City Council. Projects included feeding 5000 of Nottingham City’s Residents in one afternoon with food surplus and bringing a one of a kind art exhibition ‘Trash to Treasure’ to Nottingham. In my spare time I set up a local stay and play group and also work on Sneinton Festival organising committee. I joined PlayWorks this year and love working with the inventive and dedicated staff as well as the imaginative children!
Richard Grindon — Music Session Staff
I have over thirty years drumming and performance experience, deliver drumming workshops across the UK, and have worked with well-known artists and musicians. I bring a fast paced and energetic approach to the PlayWorks ScrapBand sessions.
Rachel Pruszak - PlayWorker
I started with PlayWorks this year and I'm thrilled to be part of such an enthusiastic and dedicated team. I have worked as a PlayWorker for 18 months now, having gained experience volunteering at my children's school over the last few years. Passionate about the importance of play and its positive impact on children's wellbeing, physical and emotional health, I am looking forward to supporting children's expression and creativity as part of the ScrapBand team.
Claire Gamble - PlayWorker
I programmed my first DVD at 19, but quit the film industry at 25 to work with children. I am a musician, crafter and Fine Art student and looking forward to combining everything I love in one job.
